Happy 65th Birthday!

Medicare

Medicare is a highly individual discussion. While you were working you bought a single type of coverage that had to work for everyone in the family. With Medicare, you will purchase exactly what makes the most sense for you. However, we will work with your partner to find plans to cover the rest of your family if your move to Medicare leaves them without insurance.

Starting roughly 90 days before your birthday – and extending for roughly 90 days after, it is time to sign up for Medicare! Even if you don’t plan to retire at 65, everyone at that mid-60’s birthday must sign up for Medicare.

You can do that quickly by going to Medicare’s official website, medicare.gov. That is where you can register for your Part A Benefits. Part A covers all inpatient or in hospital admissions for care. About 6 weeks after you sign up, you will receive your Official Medicare Card. Put this in a safe place if you are still working with other insurance benefits. It will be ready for you when you retire.

IF you are still working and have other benefits for healthcare that will continue after you qualify for Medicare you can waive signing up for other parts of the Medicare plan. IF you are planning to retire at 65, there are other parts to Medicare that you will need to make decisions about. That is where Professional Benefit Solutions can help you sort through your options.

For those who have been on Medicare for a while, it is important to take advantage of the open enrollment period Oct. 15 – Dec. 7 so that you can change benefits if your health has changed or if there are newer products that will better cover your individual needs.

Medicare Decisions

Supplemental Insurance

First, you will need to make some decisions about your Part B coverage. Part B is what covers you when you go for your regular appointments or receive care outside the hospital. You may want Medicare Supplemental Insurance which is often called “Gap Insurance”. Gap Insurance will pay deductibles and co-pays that are not covered by your Part B.

IF you take medications daily or on a regular basis, it might make sense for you to also purchase Medicare Part D – Stand Alone Insurance. Part D is coverage that covers prescription drugs and the insurance premiums for prescription drugs.

Advantage Plans

Many people are finding cost savings and better coverage with Medicare Advantage Plans. Nationally recognized insurance companies have designed qualified Advantage plans that are similar to the choices you had when you were employed. You can select coverage in an HMO or PPO or a Private Fee-For-Service Plan that contracts with Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plan and includes a drug benefit. In all, there are nine different versions of the Medicare Advantage Plan. Professional Benefit Solutions will help assure that you select the right combination of coverage to maximize your benefit without paying for coverage you do not need.

Short-Term Health Insurance

Short-Term Health Insurance Plans can provide health coverage if you are between jobs, in college,  or if you are a younger spouse or the dependents of someone who has just become eligible for Medicare. These plans typically extend for 18-24 months while you are searching for a new job, aging into Medicare or working to graduate.

Vision Insurance

Basic Medicare does not include trips to an eye doctor, yet checkups are needed annually to maintain eye health. Glasses need to be kept up to date, and the necessity for cataract surgery develop. During the open enrollment period, let us help you select the right Vision Care Policy that will cover the types of eye care you'll require as your eye health needs change.

Life Insurance

Life Insurance needs change as your need to provide for loved ones evolves over time. Maybe you have already paid off your mortgage. or maybe you owe less. Maybe you have other loans that you want to make sure your family is able to pay off should something happen to you. Perhaps you want the peace of mind in knowing your final expenses are covered. Maybe you want to leave funds for your grandchildren to go to college or to assist them as they start their adult lives. Whatever your life story – and the love story you want to leave for your loved ones – Professional Benefit Solutions can help.

Long Term Care

Nobody really wants to move to assisted living or need nursing home care. Nobody really wants home health services. Sadly, about 70% of us will require nursing home, skilled care or home health care during their life times. Long Term Care Insurance has become one of the most important investments in keeping families financially secure and assets protected. We'll help you find a plan that protects your assets and give you peace of mind.

Dental Insurance

Without Dental Insurance, a trip to the dentist can be a very expensive experience. While Dental coverage is not included in your Medicare Plan, you do have the option of purchasing a policy to cover dental care. Rest easy knowing that a Dental policy covers two annual visits to the dentist, routine x-rays and fillings along with some of the more extensive contingencies that face you as your teeth age.

Our Customers

“It started about 6 months before my birthday. The avalanche of mail! All the glossy packets and envelopes and flyers – and all filled with glossy photos of … well, old people. They surely didn’t mean me!
But I was about to be 65 and I was going to transition to Medicare. Who knew I had so many choices and so many decisions to make! Part A, Part B, Part D, Advantage plans…. I just needed to know what was best for me! And I needed to know BEFORE I turned 65.
Professional Benefit Solutions was wonderful. They explained every single choice in terms of how that plan would benefit me (or not benefit me as much as others would). I made good choices. I know what my premiums are. I totally understand what will be covered when I go to the doctor and I am confident that the medications I take are covered by the plan I have.
Frankly, I left my meeting feeling excited that I would have the best comprehensive health coverage that I’ve had in years. Medicare and turning 65 was not bad at all with the help of Professional Benefit Solutions.”
